Bank Of America To Pay Ex-Countrywide Customers

The Federal Trade Commission said Monday that Bank of America will pay $108 million to customers of Countrywide who were overcharged.

The FTC says Countrywide -- the giant lender that BOA bought two years ago in the midst of the financial crisis -- deceived about 200,000 homeowners.

It was one of the nation's most aggressive lenders during the housing boom, promoting many risky loans that ended up in foreclosure.



 

Justice Department Says Reverse Payments Illegal

Justice Department officials have been looking into a case in which Bayer paid another drugmaker to delay selling a generic version of Bayer's popular antibiotic Cipro.

The payment was challenged by some drug store chains like CVS and Rite Aid. The Federal Trade Commission says payments that delay the introduction of cheaper generics force consumers to fork out billions more a year for prescription drugs.

Lawmakers are weighing legislation that would ban the payments.



 

Car Warranty Call Gets Senators' Attention

Tens of thousands of complaints have been filed with the Better Business Bureau about a bogus telemarketing call warning your car warranty is about to expire.

Even people on the "do not call" list or those who don't own cars can get such calls. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) got the call several times.

The senator has phoned the Federal Trade Commission — calling for an investigation.
