A $1.2 million economic development incentive proposal was approved by the City of Austin, enabling eBay Inc to expand its operations in Austin.
There's already about 250 eBay employees in Austin, but the proposal expects to help create over 1,000 new ones in the next ten years.
The City of Austin Economic Growth and Redevelopment Services Office recommended the performance-based grant to help develop economic growth in Austin.

As newspapers suffer hard times, local news in Honolulu has gotten a boost from eBay founder and Hawaii resident Pierre Omidyar.
He is using a part of his personal fortune to start Civil Beat, which is a subscription online news service.
Omidyar is betting that people will pay $19.99 a month to read news and participate in conversations on the web.
