An alert security guard at the Driskill Hotel Tuesday helped catch a purse snatcher who had just attacked a woman.

The victim told police she was outside the hotel when she felt a hard blow to the back of her neck and head.  She fell to her knees then someone grabbed her purse and ran away.

A mainstay of the Austin fall event calendar, next week marks the return of the Wine & Food Foundation of Texas' Big Reds and Bubbles event at The Driskill Hotel.

Plucking showrunner geniuses from the pool of Austin Film Festival panelists for a word or two about the origin of their content, their writing habits, and their unique experiences in this eclectic city is one of our favorite past times.

In an event that may or may not have been crafted specifically for people like me, the Wine & Food Foundation is hosting their 8th annual night of wine, food & music all taking place this Thursday, November 18th at the Driskill Hotel downtown.

• The Austin Film Festival holds its Film & Food gala from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 20) at the Driskill Hotel, 604 Brazos St.

The event, benefiting the Young Filmmakers Program, features an open bar and food from Austin restaurants including Garrido’s and Siena.
