Seasons Greetings Austin! At FixAustin.org, we're excited and hopeful about the important changes 2009 may bring for Austin's lost and homeless pets.  Why is change needed at Austin's pound?

 Currently, Austin's Town Lake Animal Center kills around 12,000 dogs and cats every year.  That's 1000 every month, 34 each day, and about 1 every 12 minutes the pound has been open to the public this decade.

) has lit up the blogosphere. I’ve been thinking about commenting on the story, but really, it’s just more of the same. True, hitting the 1% mark is something of a - what’s the word I’m looking for here – milestone? But we’ve been moving in this direction for sometime.



 

Slumber party for people and potential pets

Staff and volunteers at the Austin Humane Society are sleeping with dogs and cats, literally. It's called "Home for the Holidays", a program which started last year where staffers and volunteers sleep inside of the kennels with pooches and pussycats.
