Good Law?

Doug Weathers asks criminal defense lawyers, “Would you rather have Good Facts or Good Law?”:

Every time I am preparing for a trial I deal with the question of do I have good facts or good law.

Rarely do you have both because those cases are usually dismissed or never go to trial. Sometimes you have neither good facts or good law and those cases usually plead.

In most of the trial cases you will have either good facts or good law.

The Austin Obama ’08 campaign called me tonight to tell me they had moved tomorrow’s Town Hall Meeting to a bigger room in the Austin Convention Center, and, more importantly, that they had 2 tickets for me. I was on the waiting list after being turned down for tickets this afternoon. Realistically, I thought there was no chance.

You Don’t Make Friends With Salad writes about an Oklahoma District Attorney who has sued John Grisham and a wrongfully imprisoned man for, well apparently, for writing a book that hurt his feelings. 

Grisham’s non-fiction best seller The Innocent Man chronicled the wrongful prosecution of 2 men charged and convicted of



 

One Year Anniversary (or Blawgiversary)

A big thanks goes out to all the guys at LexBlog: Kevin, Jesse, Stacey, Rob and all the others that helped me launch this blog, and keep it running for this first year.

Technically, I think it launched in late September 2006, but I’m going to artificially call October 1, 2007 the one year anniversary of the Austin Criminal Defense Blog.

Some milestones so far:

Over 150,000 hits – and based on the constant increase in readers each week and month, I can expect many more over the next 12 months.
