Time and time again during this grand debate, I’ve said that compromise was not only appropriate, but also absolutely necessary if we wanted anything passed.

Yes, this legislation is flawed. But all important legislation is. Eventually, we’ll build on this and create something that works for every single American, but for now we’ve got a good start.



 

CBO Gives Dems A $132B Christmas Present

Christmas is coming early this year for the Dems.

With the news that Ben Nelson is falling in line so Dems can avoid a filibuster, the passage of this health care bill has become much more likely (almost a certainty?).



 

CBO: 600K+ Jobs Created Or Saved By Stimulus So Far

Some welcome news for the White House, and the numbers could be even higher.

First, from the Wall Street Journal:

The Congressional Budget Office late Monday said it estimates that the federal stimulus package sustained between 600,000 and 1.6 million jobs in the third quarter, and raised gross domestic product by 1.2 to 3.2 percentage points higher than it would have been without the program.

Not only that it’s fully paid for.

That’s the latest report from the CBO and it’s encouraging to say the very least.

Per Politico, the White House claims that “more than half of the projected deficits over the next 10 years are directly attributable to the previous Administration’s failure to follow the pay-as-you-go principle.”

I do not pretend to understand the minute details of the health care overhaul bill that the Senate has been working on for the last few weeks, but the latest news on it is disconcerting to say the least.
