For over two decades, the Austin Museum of Art has hosted one of the true highlights of the fall gala event season. La Dolce Vita is now 22, and while the wines, foods, and entertainers are ever-changing, the event's star attraction is the Laguna Gloria settling.

One of the things I enjoyed about The High Cost of Free Parking was the way Shoup explains the practical effects of parking requirements.
For example, requiring one parking space per X square feet is equivalent to setting a cap on building coverage.

Although Laura Morrison ran for City Council as the Austin Neighborhoods Council candidate, I thought she'd at least try to avoid the appearance of cronyism.
Surely she'd avoid stacking her appointments with the same old ANC activists but would mix in some fresh faces -- there are lots of people, I thought, who can be counted on to reliably toe the ANC line.

As I pointed out in one of my entries on the noise ordinance, some restaurants may have trouble switching to the cocktail use to get the higher decibel limit because they will have to bring themselves up to code requirements for a cocktail use.
Shady Grove is an example.

The new noise ordinance isn't really my issue. I didn't follow it as it wended its way from task force to Council.
Others have (see here, here and here).
But the controversy over Shady Grove finally motivated me to read the ordinances myself.
I've put my thoughts below.
