2009 was a great year for the City of Austin's green energy initiatives. Earlier this week, Austin Energy announced that in the past year -- and for the past eight years -- Austin has led the nation in voluntary renewable energy sales (according to rankings by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory).

The stock market's best-known barometer is adding Cisco Systems Inc. and Travelers Cos. and dropping General Motors Corp. and Citigroup Inc.

The changes were announced Monday as GM entered bankruptcy protection. The government has, through bailout money, become a major Citigroup shareholder and reduced its role as a publicly held company.
