16-Story Apartment Tower to Rise Near Convention Center

The Whitley printing site is one of the last remaining developable half-block sites in downtown Austin. The site is conveniently located in the heart of downtown, just blocks from Congress Ave., the Convention Center, and Lady Bird Lake.

Years ago, it was slated to become the 21C Hotel & Condos before that project relocated and ultimately was cancelled.

Snoop Dogg coming to SXSW for Perez party

That’s right. Perez Hilton has just announced that the Doggfather will be playing his party on Saturday at a warehouse at 3rd and Brazos Streets.

Rumors were also rampant that Snoop Dogg will make a stop at MTV’s soundstage at the former Seaholm Power Plant and perform with Gorillaz, who will be headlining at Coachella next month.

Snoop is a guest on Gorillaz new album “Plastic Beach.” Phone calls to MTV were not returned Monday.

Earlier today, Perez confirmed that Marina and the Diamonds and Alphabeat are also playing his party, which is sponsored by Swagg.



 

21c Museum & Condos Takes a Step Forward

The 21c Museum & Condos moved a step closer to reality this week. The project, a 44-story tower which will combine a museum, hotel, and condos in a very attractive structure on Third and Brazos, received approval from the Austin Design Commission.

Next, the Austin Planning Commission will review the project on September 11 before it's final review by the City Council.

Given the buildings strong support, it seems to be well positioned for approval.

A Kentucky-based developer announced plans for a unique 44-story tower on a prime downtown lot today. The $200M project, "21c Austin" will combine a private contemporary art museum, condos, and a boutique hotel run under the 21c brand.

The project is based on the 21c Louisville, which is the top-rated hotel in the city of Louisville, Kentucky.
