Saudi king allows women to vote in local elections (AP)

AP - Saudi King Abdullah has given the kingdom's women the right to vote for first time in nationwide local elections, due in 2015.

The king said in an annual speech on Sunday before his advisory assembly, or Shura Council, that Saudi women will be able to run and cast ballots in the 2015 municipal elections.

Afghan and international officials are now hoping to break the logjam by agreeing to review ballots at about 10 percent of the nearly 3,100 polling stations flagged as suspicious by a U.N.-backed watchdog.

Ballots Still Being Counted In Afghanistan

In Afghanistan, the first results of last week's presidential and provincial council elections are due to be announced Tuesday.

But millions of ballots are still making their way to the capital, Kabul. That leaves some question as to whether the election commission will be able to give preliminary results by Tuesday.

Karzai recently traveled to a remote village, where he held a rally. Karzai struck a deal with an influential religious leader there that virtually assures he will carry the entire area.
