Members of the United Auto Workers finish voting Tuesday on a new contract with the automaker that would mean nearly 6,000 new jobs in U.S.

Ford and the UAW both say it's a good deal for the company and its union employees, but not everyone is convinced.

The automaker surprised Wall Street on Friday by announcing it had made $2.6 billion in the second quarter.

Ford's U.S. sales rose 28 percent in the first six month of this year.

Ford Motor Company says sales of its Mercury brand are so dismal that it will stop making the cars this year.

The automaker says it will divert the resources it was devoting to the ailing brand to boost Ford and Lincoln sales.

Ford Motor Co. reported profits for the first quarter Tuesday. The automaker said it made $2.1 billion in its fourth consecutive profitable quarter.

And they could break even this year.

So while they won’t be paying back the government loans as soon as GM, they’re still on track to meet their obligations in the future.
