Adopt a Tree in Crestview

Crestview Neighborhood Association  Mon, 02/08/2010 - 12:40pm

If you’ve been along Arroyo Seco since Saturday, February 6th, you may have noticed 17 new tree saplings planted along the block between St.

Johns and Cullen. The 17 trees include Bur Oaks, Cedar Elms, Mountain Laurels, and other types of oaks. Why plant such small trees?

Several reasons, including they are easier to plant, establish on a slope easier, require less water per tree per volunteer, and these were trees donated by Crestview neighborhood gardeners to keep the project cost low.

Besides, we have it on good authority that little trees become big trees in time!

The Crestview Green Neighbor Initiative is starting a new offshoot group, Friends of Brentwood Park (FOBP).

This new group has signed an Adopt-A-Park agreement with the Austin Parks and Recreation Department. Our first work day is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th from 9 am to noon.

Our task will be simple but important: spreading mulch! We will mulch several bare areas under large trees where the soil has been compacted by lots of use, and around newly planted young trees.

Crestview will co-host the Arroyo Seco Holiday Luminarias this year.
With the financial support of the Crestview Neighborhood Association,
we'll continue the street candles past Brentwood north up Justin Lane

cool 14 year old tradition and fun to drive by each night.
