Unions Shocked By American Airlines Proposed Cuts

American Airlines is looking to cut 13,00 jobs as part of a restructuring. The company — which is in bankruptcy — also wants to reduce salaries by 20 percent and end its pension plan.

American Airlines Files For Bankruptcy Protection

The parent company of one of the nation's largest airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Tuesday morning.

AMR Corporation, which runs American Airlines and American Eagle, said that bankruptcy is in the best interest of the companies and its stakeholders.

The companies say the Chapter 11 process will enable them to continue conducting normal business operations while they restructure their debts.



 

Long-Lost Pets Resurface

"Jack the Cat" became an Internet sensation when he disappeared in baggage claim at New York's Kennedy airport.

Two months later, American Airlines says, Jack has resurfaced at customs. A Jack Russell terrier named Petey traveled a bit farther: from Tennessee to Detroit — nearly 600 miles.

New AA Nonstop Between JFK and AUS Starts July

American Airlines' new daily nonstop between New York City's JFK Airport and Austin-Bergstrom starts July 2nd.

The AUS-JFK leg departs at 9:35 a.m. and lands at 2:30 p.m., while the returning flight from JFK-AUS leaves at 3:40 p.m. and gets back here at 6:50 p.m.

Like most of their domestic flights, this one will be flown on an MD-80 plane.
