In his Democratic convention acceptance speech sixteen years ago, Bill Clinton declared that as one of the first initiatives of his administration, he would "take on the health care profiteers and make health care affordable for every family."

Thursday night, John McCain officially accepted the GOP's presidential nomination. On the convention floor, his acceptance speech was well received.

Gallup: Obama Up By 7

The Obama/Biden ticket has maintained a pretty significant lead the past 8 days since the DNC really began in earnest and Gallup was tracking the response.

So it’s telling that after 3 days of the RNC, there’s pretty much no change in the lead.

Obama drops 1 and McCain gains 1 today for a net 2 gain for McCain. Still, it’s a significant enough lead for Obama to be feeling decent after the Palin announcement.



 

Republicans All But Cancel First Day of Convention

Well, it’s official. Hurricane Gustav has prompted the Republicans toall but cancel the first day of their convention, meeting only briefly, out of primetime, to take care of the official business of opening the convention.

Apparently, this change was on the orders of John McCain who also implored Republicans to not act like partisans but like Americans during this difficult moment.



 

Obama Defines Himself, Rival McCain

Barack Obama has accepted the Democratic Party's nomination for president. His acceptance speech Thursday night fired hard at his rival, John McCain.

Portraying a McCain administration as a continuation of the current Bush White House, Obama said, "On Nov. 4, we must stand up and say: 'Eight is enough.' " Obama also said he welcomes a debate with McCain over who has the best temperament and judgment to be president.



 

Pa. Man Wins Trip To Obama's Acceptance Speech

Eric Melder is one of 10 Barack Obama supporters who won an all-expenses-paid trip to Denver courtesy of the Obama campaign.

Last month, Obama's campaign e-mailed supporters saying if they made a donation of $5 or more and wrote a 100-word essay explaining why they support Obama, they could be selected to attend the convention.
