Another off-topic, flight-inspired post:

I don't have a problem with airlines' recent move toward a la carte pricing.

 They are simply unbundling their services.  The people who complain are the people who enjoyed being subsized by the customers who don't use the service. 

But does charging for checked luggage make sense?

 Airlines are trying to raise prices on leisure travelers, I think, but from where I sit people who check their luggage produce a net benefit.
