Getting your event listed in the community calendar

You can list events in the site's calendar in one the following ways:

  • Posting to the NNDL
  • Submitting to the News & Announcements category
  • Letting us know about your iCalendar feed

Posting to the NNDL

Create your email as you would normally. Then at the end of the email, in two separate lines, add the date and time information using the event-start: and the event-end: tags as shown below.

event-start: 11/19/2007 5:00pm
event-end: 11/19/2007 6:30pm

The spacing between a tag (event-start: or event-end:) and a date-time element is not important but you must have at least one space between them. For example, the following is correct

event-start: 11/19/2007 5:00pm
event-end: 11/19/2007 6:30pm

Similarly, the spacing between a date element and a time element is not important but you must have at least one space separating them. However, there must be no spaces within a date element or a time element. For example, the following is incorrect

event-start: 11/19/2007 5:00 pm - incorrect (space between 5:00 and pm)

Day, month, and hour may consist of single digits, but the year must have four and the minutes two. Additionally, the time element must be in a twelve-hour format, without periods in the am/pm designators. For example, the following is incorrect

event-start: 11/19/07 5:00 p.m. - incorrect (2 digit year, periods in pm designator)

Additional notes

  • The event-start: tag is required
  • The event-end: tag is optional

News & Announcements submission

On the News & Announcement submission page, post the description of the event and then simply fill in the two additional Date & time fields

  • From date
  • To date

That's it! The system will automatically pick up the date values and list your event appropriately in the calendar.

Step by Step
Log in to your account and click the News & Announcements link. You will find the link under the Create Content menu. On the Submit News & Announcements page

  • Enter the title of your announcement in the Title field
  • Select a News region and a News category
  • Optionally, enter some relevant tags in the News tags field
  • Enter the text of your announcement in the Body area
  • In the Date & time section enter the From date and the To date
  • Click Preview to see what your posting will look like
  • Click Submit

The To Date field is optional. If your event does not have an "end time" leave this field blank.

When I log in, I don't see the create News & Announcements link. What do I do?
If you don't see a News & Announcements link under the Create Content menu after you log in, your account is not enabled to post events to the calendar. You can make a request to have the feature enabled. Please use the Contact form. Briefly mention your affiliation and state the reason for your request.
