[nndl] cars on the sidewalk

Posted on Sat, 09/06/2008 - 3:50pm
Hi all:
Not sure if this has been an ongoing issue but this afternoon I saw a person in a wheelchair who had to leave the sidewalk along North Loop in front of R & D Motors because there were cars parked on the sidewalk- don't know if it was cars for sale or the cars of shoppers.

I called 911 & they said an officer would head over to take care of it-   this is the second time in a few months that

[nndl] Save the Date: "Road to No Kill Austin" October 17th

Posted on Thu, 09/04/2008 - 7:40pm

Hi neighbors,
Some of you may not know that Austin's pound currently kills more than 13,000 dogs and cats each year as it has for decades.  Several years ago, Sarah and I founded an animal-advocacy charity, FixAustin.org, with the goal of reducing Austin's shelter killing through the use of cost-effective, proven programs that have effectively and dramatically reduced shelter killing in other communities across the country.

What, exactly, are you contributing to the neighborhood good with your
snark? That it's private snark makes no difference to me whatsoever. I
don't know you, I've never met you, yet you pick my address off a public
list and send me your childish comments. Keep them to yourself. I don't
want to hear them, on the forum or in my private mailbox.

My apologies for offending your delicate sensibilities with my crass
description of what happens to hapless creatures along Avenue F. In
future, I will be sure to drape the truth in euphemisms so that you can
live your life free of having those horrible pictures in your head.

[nndl] Question, please - appropriate material to forward to nndl and nnadl

I have information about a call for volunteers for a political campaign
and voter registration drive.

Some of you may be interested in this volunteer effort.

Is it appropriate for me to forward this information to either of the
'hood lists?

Speed bumps are ineffective, from my RNA perspective of 7 years of requesting and planning for traffic calming, per the approved n'hood plan.

We needed/need road closures for the 6 feeder road incursions, in order to protect our hood from access road traffic - the cars and definitely the trucks.  What we got was speed bumps. These I see vehicles take at their "normal speed".

From what I hear, the majority of residents in Hyde Park appreciate the
traffic calming they received. A few people complain about the traffic
circles, but most people (especially long-term residents who remember
what it was like before) appreciate the drop in both numbers and speed
of cars.

Speed humps are probably the least desirable approach (albeit probably
the most effective). I personally prefer curb/pedestrian islands and
traffic circles.

Victoria -- Unfortunately, at this point, it is the lesser of two evils.
The humps may be awful, but they beat scraping dead pets (and maybe
somebody's kids) off the street every couple of weeks. Not to mention
the three (at least) cars that have been totaled along Avenue F between
Koenig and North Loop within the last year.
