"The Gernsheim Collection," co-published by the Harry Ransom Center and the University of Texas Press, has been awarded an Alfred H.

Barr Jr. Award, which honors a distinguished catalog in the history of art published during the past year.

Obama unveils new budget

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is sending Congress a new budget that seeks to achieve $4 trillion in deficit reduction over the next decade through cuts in government spending and higher taxes on the wealthy.

At the same time, he wants to boost spending in key areas such as transportation and education.

The spending blueprint is certain to spark an election-year battle with Republicans, who are vowing to oppose Obama’s tax hikes.

They contend the president is not doing enough to attack a dangerous deficit problem.



 

Embassy bombings point fingers at Iran

NEW DELHI — Israel blamed Iran on Monday for bomb attacks on its diplomats’ cars in India and Georgia, heightening concerns that the Jewish state was moving closer to striking its archenemy.

Iran denied responsibility for the attacks that appeared to mirror the recent killings of Iranian nuclear scientists that Tehran blamed on Israel.

The blast in New Delhi set a car ablaze and injured four people, including an Israeli Embassy driver and a diplomat’s wife; the device in Georgia was discovered and safely defused.



 

Longhorns look to lock down Sooners

The hallmark of a Rick Barnes team has always been a stifling defense. Now, two-thirds of the way through Big 12 play, the Longhorns are finally becoming a defensive menace.

Texas has won three straight games on the strength of its swarming D.

UT (16-9, 6-6) is allowing an average of 63 points during the streak, and the Longhorns visit Oklahoma tonight looking to pester another opponent.

Texas blanks competition with starters, solid defense

The Longhorns showed early signs of being a dominant team this weekend.

Texas finished off its five-game weekend series on Sunday afternoon with an 8-0 win against the Colorado State Rams.

The Longhorns took all five games and out-scored their opponents 60-0 during the Texas Classic thanks to strong pitching and solid defense.
