Agreed--- that's why I said "generally."  Their rule is not to take found dogs, but they will make exceptions.  Definitely worth a shot, and thanks for making that very valid point, Mary.

Hi, all

I work at the Humane Society as a volunteer and they often do take
"found" dogs. They do take in dogs/kitties that people have rescued -
as in this case - they have been fostering the dog for a few days.

It cannot hurt to call them -

Mary

They also rescue dogs from the Town Lake Center.

GIven that this dog was found and Ryan Clinton wrote:

Unfortunately, the Austin Humane Society is unlikely to take her.  They are not an open-admission facility and generally do not take strays; only owner surrenders.  And worse still, the pound is very likely to kill her. There is, however, a new option for those in need of finding a home for a pet.  Austin Pets Alive may be able to help.  Call (512) 689-1885 to find out.

You might also contact PawMatch, at 243-3700, who has adopted out more pets in Austin than any other non-profit the last two years.
