This is a strange time for those of us who make music. While anyone can make a record with a laptop and learn to play by watching lessons on YouTube, more than half of American teenagers have never paid for music and cannot be convinced why anyone would.

What will happen next? Will this generation of artists find a way to live and thrive in this chaos?
